Import a list of links

Paste or upload links, one per line, and get saved sessions or folders. Works with tab saver exports.

Have your links as plain text? A list exported from a tab saver, notes, a spreadsheet column, an email? Text List imports them in one go: paste the text or upload a .txt file.

What a Text List can look like

One link per line. A title is optional and can sit before or after the link:

  • https://example.com | Example or https://example.com Example
  • Example - https://example.com
  • Markdown links: [Example](https://example.com)
  • Bullets and numbering at the start of a line are fine.
  • A line with only a link uses the link as its title.

Lines without an http or https link are skipped, so stray notes in the text do no harm.

Blocks and names

A blank line starts a new block. A text line at the top of a block, with no link in it, names that block (# Trip and Trip: work too). This list makes two blocks, “Lisbon trip” and “Reading list”:

text
Lisbon trip

https://www.timeout.com/lisbon | Time Out Lisbon

Import it

  1. 1

    Open Import / Export

Click Import / Export at the bottom of the sidebar.

  2. 2

    Choose Text List

Upload a .txt file, or paste your links into the box.

  3. 3

    Check the preview and import

LinkVolv shows how many links it found in each block. Click Import.

What you get

  • In the browser extension, each block becomes a saved session in Saved Tabs, ready to restore as a window of tabs.
  • In the web and desktop apps, which have no saved sessions, each block becomes a folder of bookmarks.
  • A block with no name is called “Imported tabs” (or “Imported links” as a folder).

Coming from another app

Most tab savers can export your saved tabs as text. A few examples:

  • OneTab: open Export / Import URLs, copy the whole list and paste it. Its groups are already separated by blank lines, so each one becomes its own session.
  • Session Buddy: export a session as a plain list of links, then paste it.
  • Anything else: if you can copy the links, one per line, Text List can read them.

Got a file instead?

Bookmark files (HTML), CSV and JSON have their own import. See Import a bookmarks file.

Limits

An import always brings everything in, even past the Free limits (100 saved tabs, 1,000 bookmarks). Only new saves after that need Plus.
